This is how to get a Nepalese Police Clearance Certificate from overseas

A police clearance certificate is an essential document for many applications, including visas, work permits, and professional licences.
If you’ve applied for a job overseas and been asked to provide police verification, there’s no longer any need to worry about contacting relatives in Kathmandu, arranging letters, or dealing with courier delays. The Nepal Police has introduced an electronic police verification service for Nepalese living abroad.
Through this online system, Nepalese overseas can apply for police clearance certificates directly, whether for employment, permanent residency, or a temporary visa. Many countries — including Australia, the United States, and Canada — require character and police checks as part of their visa or migration processes.
While the outcomes of character assessments or visa screening cannot be guaranteed, the process of obtaining a police clearance from Nepal is now simpler, faster, and more reliable.
Under the streamlined system, the Nepal Police Crime Investigation Department can issue police clearance certificates electronically and send them directly by email. Applications are submitted online, processing times are quicker, and there is no need to rely on family members in Nepal to complete the process on your behalf.
This new online registration system makes it easier for Nepalese living anywhere in the world to obtain a Nepal Police Report required for residency, employment, or migration applications.

Before the Nepal Police Report went fully online

Before the introduction of the new online character verification system, the Nepal Police relied on an email-based process. Applicants were required to email their application form and supporting documents to the relevant department.
Even then, many applicants still depended on relatives in Kathmandu to collect a physical copy of the Nepal Police Report and courier it overseas, adding time, cost, and uncertainty to the process.
Once the email application was received, the Nepal Police would usually respond with instructions and, if approved, issue a digital Character Verification Certificate by email. However, the system had clear limitations. Email size restrictions meant applications could fail if attachments were too large. Small mistakes — such as formatting errors or missing documents — could result in the application not being received at all, often without the applicant knowing.
This lack of confirmation created reliability issues. Applicants had no clear way to track whether their email had been delivered, opened, or processed.
By contrast, the new online police clearance system offers a more reliable and transparent process. It allows applicants to track their application and receive updates at each stage.
For visa applications to countries such as Australia, the United States, and Canada, a police or character report is mandatory. Being able to obtain this report online within around three business days is a significant improvement. Even better, the service is free — applicants are not required to pay any fee.
